A stunning custom double-return frameless shower enclosure. The design required precise laser measurements to perfectly match the out-of-plumb tile work, ensuring a watertight seal without the use of bulky metal frames or plastic sweeps. The Challenge
The primary challenge in this Coquitlam residential project was the complex geometry of the existing bathroom space. The client had recently completed a high-end tile renovation, but due to the settling of the older home, the walls and shower curb were significantly out of plumb. A standard off-the-shelf shower enclosure would have resulted in large, unsightly gaps or required thick metal framing to conceal the discrepancies. The homeowner specifically requested a minimalist, fully frameless look with a double-return configuration to maximize the shower footprint without encroaching on the freestanding tub area. Ensuring structural integrity and water tightness in a multi-angled layout required expert planning and execution.
Our Solution
Our team began with highly precise laser templating to capture the exact contours and angles of the out-of-plumb tile work. We specified 10mm clear tempered safety glass, custom-cut to match the unique slopes of the walls and curb down to the millimeter. To achieve the frameless aesthetic, we utilized premium matte black hinges and low-profile clips that perfectly matched the bathroom's contemporary fixtures. The double-return design was executed using minimal glass-to-glass silicone joints, eliminating the need for bulky corner extrusions. We also applied EnduroShield protective coating to the interior surfaces to repel water and soap scum, drastically reducing future maintenance and preserving the optical clarity of the glass.
