Glass Railing & Stainless Handrail, Port Moody

Project Overview

Full interior glass railing system with brushed stainless hardware installed throughout a Port Moody home — covering a long upper-hallway guardrail run, a staircase transition, and matching stair post handrails. The homeowners wanted to preserve the panoramic city views and maximize natural light through the open-concept layout.

The Challenge

This Port Moody home's reno involved replacing traditional wood balusters across multiple zones: a long upper-floor guardrail overlooking the main living area, a staircase section transitioning between levels, and post-mounted handrails at the stair landing. The layout required coordinating base-shoe glass panels with round stainless post handrails at the stair transitions — two different system types that needed to look unified and meet BC Building Code on a single install schedule.

Our Solution

WaveGlass templated each zone separately: the hallway run for the base-shoe glass panels, and the stair transitions for the round post system. The 12mm tempered glass panels were custom-cut to exact lengths and fitted into a brushed stainless base-shoe channel along the hallway guardrail. At the staircase, round stainless posts were anchored through the finished flooring and fitted with matching round-section handrails. All hardware was specified in a single brushed stainless finish for visual continuity across both systems.

The Result

The completed installation opens the home completely — city and treetop views are now visible from the kitchen and living area through the uninterrupted glass panels. The brushed stainless hardware coordinates with the home's appliances and cabinet hardware. The homeowners noted the most dramatic change was how much natural light reached the main floor once the solid wood railing was removed.
