Project Overview
Floor-to-ceiling custom mirror installation for a luxury home gym. The mirrors were precisely cut to accommodate electrical outlets and wall contours, providing a seamless, distortion-free reflection essential for a premium workout space.
The Challenge
A homeowner in Surrey was converting a large basement area into a professional-grade personal fitness studio. A critical requirement for any serious gym is extensive wall mirroring to allow for form checking and to visually expand the space. The designated mirror wall spanned over 20 feet and featured several challenges: out-of-square corners, a ceiling bulkhead, and multiple electrical outlets and light switches that needed to remain accessible. Using small, standard-size mirrors would have resulted in numerous distracting seams and a piecemeal look. The goal was to create a continuous, distortion-free reflective surface that felt integrated directly into the architecture of the room.
Our Solution
We designed a full-wall mirror installation utilizing large-format, 6mm premium architectural grade mirror. The 6mm thickness is crucial for large spans to prevent the 'funhouse' warping effect common with thinner, cheaper mirrors. Our technicians conducted precise laser measurements to map the irregularities of the walls and ceiling bulkhead. Each mirror panel was custom-cut in our fabrication facility, including intricate cutouts for the electrical boxes. The mirrors were installed using a combination of heavy-duty mirror mastic and a discrete bottom J-channel to bear the weight. We meticulously shimmed the panels during installation to compensate for the uneven wall framing, ensuring perfect planar alignment across all seams.
The Result
The luxury home gym was completely transformed by the expansive mirror wall, feeling instantly doubled in size and significantly brighter by reflecting the overhead lighting. The precision installation resulted in tight, barely visible seams and a perfectly flat, distortion-free reflection across the entire 20-foot span. The custom cutouts for the electrical outlets were executed flawlessly, allowing the client to mount their custom switch plates directly over the mirror for a high-end, finished look. The addition of the mirrors elevated the basement from a simple workout room into an elite, motivating fitness environment that rivals commercial boutique studios.
