Frequently Asked Questions

Custom glass projects involve choices around glass type, thickness, and fabrication timelines. Here are answers to the questions we hear most often.

What is the difference between tempered and laminated glass?

Tempered glass is heat-treated to be 4–5× stronger than standard glass and shatters into small, blunt pebbles if broken. Laminated glass has a plastic interlayer (PVB) between two panes — if broken, shards stay bonded to the interlayer. Laminated glass is required for high-elevation railings and overhead applications where falling shards would be hazardous.

How long does custom glass fabrication take?

Standard cut-to-size pieces (shelving, table tops, partition panels) are typically ready in 3–5 business days. Specialty glass — tempered, laminated, or low-iron — takes 7–10 business days. Complex projects like wine cellars with multiple custom panels may take 2–3 weeks.

What glass thickness options are available?

Common thicknesses are 6mm (shelving, cabinet inserts), 8mm (light-duty partitions), 10mm (standard shower and partition panels), 12mm (structural railings), and 19mm (glass floors and structural bridges). The right choice depends on the span, load requirements, and whether tempering is specified.
